A GREEK TRIBUTE » — SERVICE AT WAR MEMORIAL) " The opportunity of paying a tribute to New Zealand's dead before his departure from the Dominion was taken yesterday morning by Archbishop Timotheos, of the Greek Orthodox Church, who laid a ■wreath, on the Soldiers' Memorial, on behalf of the Greek community in Wellington. Those present at the ceremony included members of the City Council and the Returned Soldiers' and South African Veterans' Associations. In the course of an address delivered in, Greek, the Archbishop referred to New Zealand's splendid response to the call to the colours, and said that the memorial •was a constant reminder of the high principles of Christian civilisation, and the noble versions of the higher emotions exemplified by Kiose who died for their country. The' Greeks belonged to a country small in area-but rich in traditions, ; and Greeks living in New Zealand felt a sacred duty to the heroic sons of a land in which Greeks enjoyed every, freedom. la laying a wreath on the memorial they " were mentally crowning every fallen hero with .branches of laurel and olive and flowers gathered from the hills of Parnassus. . HUTT VALLEY GUN CLUB ♦ ■ On Saturday afternoon the members of the Hutt VMley Gnn Club fired the first stage of the club championship, 21 birds from the 12 yards mark. The match was fired under most difficult conditions, and the' scores were much below, the usual average. For the trophy allotted to this stage two competitors tied, and in the shoot-off C.
