CORRESPONDENCE
THE CABINET
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —What is the essential requirement in present-day Cabinets? Is it not men of finance? How is New Zealand facing up to that standard? The public had confidence in the Hon. Downie Stewart, but his colleagues forced him out of the position of Minister of Finance by adopting a policy of which not only he but Treasury officials disapproved. The effect of that policy is now being fully realised not only by that section of the community which was expected to obtain a direct benefit, but by the large section who have to "pay the piper." These facts must Burely be understood by members of Parliament, but as. far as the public can gather no one seems to be game enough to "bell the cat" and tell Mr. Coates and Mr. Forbes that it is time they reversed the exchange policy and reinstated Mr. Stewart in the Cabinet.—l am, etc., NON-PARTISAN.
