DE LUXE THEATRE.

Bret Harte the famous short-story writer, contributed the tale on which Fox Films founded their production "Salomy Jane," now at the De Luxe Theatre. Joan Bennett and Charles Farrell have the leading roles in this picture, which returns to the favourite theme of early American films, the opening West. It is a notable picture of its hind, with rapid adventure succeeding rapod adventure, much humour, sharp characterisations, and remarkably, beautiful photography. The director has hit on the plan of presenting the tale as if someone were turning the pages of an old album, and he has selected settings of great natural beauty photographed with clarity. The result is striking. Joan Bennett is attractive, and Charles Farrell as pleasant as ever, perhaps too pleasant for his role of avenger. A notable achievement from Elstree Studios under the title of "Lord Camber's Ladies," will have its Australasian premiere at the' De Luxe Theatre on Friday. This dramatic masterpiece, boasting as it does two of England's most distinguished artists, Gerald dv Maurier and Gertrude Lawrence, tells the story of a woman accused of poisoning her one-time lover's wife by the man she loves. Lord Camber, who has fallen in love with Janet King, conceals from her his true identity and provides her with a comfortable income by placing extensive orders with her flower shop in his own name. ■ Shirley Neville, a popular musical comedy actress, has also succumbed to Camber's charms, and ensnares him into a marriage. Janet, heartbroken when her lover leaves her without any explanation, takes up nursing to forget the past. Later, when Lady Camber comes to the nursing home where Janet is an assistant, the unfortunate girl discovers her former lover's identity. Box plan at The Bristol and Theatre.
