LIFE-SAVERS", PROPOSALS
n (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. The increase, in the number of drowning accidents in New Zealand was deplored at the conference o£ the New Zealand Life Saving Association at lroxton on Saturday night. It was decided, in order to stimulate the formation of surf clubs on all beaches, that a set of commonsense rules -be framed for the advice of bathers and that the iress throughout the Dominion be 'requested to give full publicity to same In a general discussion several delegates voiced their opinions on matters calculated to effect improvements in the work of the association. Of special interest was the statement that the Wanganui City Council had granted special facilities to members of their surf club and had greatly assisted their work by granting free transport to the club tor both training purposes and patrol work at weekends.- It was stated also that the council had appointed members 01 tne.JMH Club as beach inspectors, giving them special power, to control batkim* etc. * fa> It was pointed out ijhat this was a ZZ\a S1 rablfv : Btep- and if generally accepted would greatly assit in reducing the number and danger of drowning fatalities. ■ It was decided to endeavour to induce other councils and local bodies to grant similar powevs to all existing
