ENGLAND'S INNINGS. OVER
LEAD OF 19 RUNS
(Received February 27, 3 pjn.) SYDjNTEY, This Day. The fourth day's play in the fiftti cricket Test opened with England requiring only 18 runs for. a lead over Australia on the first innings and having two wickets in- hand. Allen (25)' was unbeaten at stumps on Saturday^, and the remaining players to bat were Verity and Voce. After the start of play today England's score of '418 for eight wickets was steadily advanced until, at the cost of one more wicket, it was taken beyond Australia's 435. The lead was gained after half an hour' 3 play today. ■ The last wicKet carried the scoie to 454, at which the innings ended, England having a lead of 19 xuns on the first-innings. For the resumption of. play today the Weather was fine and warm, and there was again' a big crowd to follow the progress of play. Allen was aeeom-' panied to the wickets by Verity. Alien quickly carried his score to 31, Veritjj meanwhile making a couple of runs.
