ROWERS' DAY

WELLINGTON REGATTA

GOOD ENTRIES RECEIVED

Crews from Canterbury, Marlborough, and "Wanganui are taking part in the annual Wellington Bowing Begatta today. The entries in the twelve events scheduled total 59, as compared with 56 last year. Although the increase in entries is countered by the addition of an extra event, officials of the Wellington Regatta Club, under whose auspices the regatta is being held, express satisfaction with the position. Races commenced at noon on the Korokora course (between Ngahauranga and Petone). The water in that part Of the harbour is fairly smooth, but it. is possible that visiting crews may be troubled by strong gusts of wind sweeping down the gullie3 along the Hutt Road. The Petone Club's crews are well accustomed to the tricks of the wind on. this course, and this respect will have an advantage over the other crews. Several of the crews competing today are prominent contenders for championship honours at the New Zealand Regatta to be held at Wanganui next Saturday. The results will be noted with interest by rowers throughout the Dominion. Special efforts have been made by the Regatta Club to get the events started on time. The officials in charge of the regatta are as follows; — Starter, Mr. A. Turner; umpire, Mr, A. D. Bayfeild; assistant starter, Mr. D. McGrath; judges, Messrs. G. Lauchlan, H. Pay ton, E. S. Innes, F. W. Mothes; timekeepers, Messrs. P. N. Denton and G. C. Sherwood; clerks of scales, Messrs. E. Meeeh, W. Moys, and F. Hinchcliff.
