SIGNALS TO SHIPS
POWERFUL LAMP USED
For many years_ships coming up tho harbour in daytime have been directed to their berths by flags flown from the signal tower at the end of the Queen's Wharf. Signalling by morse from a powerful lamp in daytime has been introduced, and.it is proving a great success. The lamp's signals-can-be read from Eastbourne. At the present time flags are still hoisted while signalling is being done with the lamp, but as the masters of vessels that trade in and out of Wellington become more used to signalling by lamp, the use of the flags will be discontinued.
