LONDON, January. 10. _ Yesterday *afternoon the British Empire League held a reception, in honour of. Mrs. J. : A, Mollison. LieutenantColonel F. C.Shelmerdine, Director of Civil Aviation, and Mrs. Shelmerdine, and Mr. and: Mrs. Mollison received— and shook hands with—about ■ 400 guests. A number of New.Zoalanders wore present, including the High Commissioner and Lady Wilford. The Eev. J. Pigott (Napier) was instituted on March 18 last to the benefico of Newtown Lmford, by the Bishop of Leicester. Newtown Linford is one of the most charming and pictuicsquo villages in Leicestershire. Mr. Pigott also assists in tho parish pf Gleniield, and has been appointed one of the six; assistant,missioners in tho diocese. His two daughters, aged 12 and 8 respectively, are being educated at Sloneygate College, Leicester. It is announced that tho marriago ananged between James Gould, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Nolan, of Gisborne, and Hope Eversley, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Belfield, of Dawlish, Devon, will take place early in April in New Zealand. The death is announced of Sir Ernest Louis Meinertzhagen, at tho age of 78, who for many years played a prominent part in. the political life of London. Sir Ernost, who was a barrister, married in 1878 Miss Alice Helen Carlyon, daughter of Mr. Georgo G. Carlyon, of Hawke's Bay. H. was a senior member of: the London County Council for Chelsea for more than twenty years, and also rendcied long service on tho Chelsea Borough Council. Ho was chairman Of tho local Conservative and Unionist Association. His name was especially prominent in tho Slum Clearance work at Chelsea, and he was knighted in 1928. Tho late Mr. Archibald W, L. LyleKidd, of Guildford. Surrey, whose estate is valued at £27,844, has left £20,000 to his niece, Miss J. A. Beyers. Ho gave the losidue of the property to hia sister, Mrs. Beyers, in -the hope that she will be generous to his two maids, "Preston" and "Bcssi^." The Misses Beyers (Wellington) have been visiting this country. # A wedding of New Zealand interest is that of Miss Isla McKenzie (Masterton) to Mr. B. S. Nichoil, K.A.F. Miss McKenzie'arrived in England with her mother, Mrs. K. D. McKenzie, on December 16, and tho marriago took place on Boxing Day at St. Maiy's Parish Church, Totbury, Gloucestershire. Mr. and Mrs. Nichoil will reside in Dibden Purlieu, near the E.A.F. base, Calshot, where Mr. Nichoil is at present stationed. Mr. Nichoil (Scots College), beforo joining the Eoyal Air Eorco, was on tho literary staff 'of the "New Zealand Times," Wellington, and later of the Wairarapa "Age," Masterton.
