BETTERMENT
RATEPAYERS' ATTITUDE
At a meeting of- the Wellington Ratepayers' Association this'week reference was made to the betterment clause in the Municipal Corporations Bill now before Parliament. Strong exception was taken to. tho attempt that was being made to rush the principles of betterment into- law per medium of a general bill of three hundred clauses or more .dealing with many matters. It was considered by members that -the principle of betterment was so vital in its application to,- and effect upon, the property of ratepayers that if the matter was to be debated in Parliament it should be per medium of a special bill. It was resolved that stops should be taken to bring the views of the association before the Prime Minister and members of Parliament as early as possible. '
