MONTHS ACTIVITIES

The monthly meeting of the Weningto_i Free Ambulance Board was held today. Colonel G. Mitchell presided. The chairman said that the new bnild*. ing would be ready for the opening cere*. mony on March 8. J. B. Norwood. The chairman. • of the Wellington Hospital Board (Mr. F. Castle) is to preside. The chairman said that the increased tax on petrol would hit the board very, hard. He did not think it was the in--' tention of the Government that.the tax"; should be imposed on organisations eu* gaged in the protection of human life. _ The board passed a resolution asking the Government for exemption from."the tax. The chairman reported that' the re* ceipts for the past month. amounted tav £143 6s Bd, the expenditure had been'£2Bo Is Id; credit balance at bank £7*. 17s 2d. The building fund was. stated' to be in a satisfactory position; provision had been made lor the payment of all accounts, and there Would be-- a. small credit balance. -.'.-'•". The Waikanae Red Cross Society fori warded £6, the proceeds of a benefit con* cert;, and the Pukerua Bay Progress AsU sociation sent £4 "4s Bd, the proceeds of. a dance; a number-of personal donations were acknowledged. The superintendent, Mr. F. Rpffe, reported the following work of service-for the month of January:—Cases attended:' 64 accidents, 397 transports, 4 slight ahd-3 serious office cases, total 468. Details o£ cases: City and suburbs .390, Ngahauranga 2, Petone 24, Lower Hutt 18. Belmont 2, Trentham 5, Upper Hutt 6.
