SURF CHAMPIONSHIPS

PROGRAMME OF, EVENTS
The council of the New Zealand Surf Association held a meeting recently. Mr. P. P. Coira presided. The New "Zealand surf and life-saving championships are to be held on February 25 and 26, and the following entries have been received:—Nelson Shield.—Old Boys (New Plymouth),. Wanganui, Maranui, Lyall Bay A, Lyall Bay B, Foxton, Patea. William Henry Memorial Trophy.—Old Boys (New Plymouth) A, Old Boys (New Plymouth) B, Wanganui A and B, Maranui A, B, and C, Worser Bay A and B.Lyall Bay A, 8...C, D, and E, Foxton, East End (New Plymouth), Patea, Takapuna, Opunake. Surf Teams' Race.— Maranui, Lyall Bay A, Lyall Bay B. The following is the programme of events:— Saturday, February 25, 1 p.m., judges and timekeepers' /conference; 1.15 p.m., march past display, all competitors with pennants, ballot by teams' captains in secretary's tent immediately following march past; 1.45 p.m.,. Nelson Shield, team will do land drill immediately followed by waterworks "7. p.m., conference of delegates, Foxton Council Chambers. Sunday, February 26, 10.45 a.m., Ballot in secretary's tent for resuscitation and promotion of warmth (Henry Memorial); 11 a.m., commencement of resuscitation and promotion of warmth; 1.45 p.m., waterwork, Henry Memorial Trophy; 4 p.m.' surf teams* race; ■ 4.30 p.m., presentation of, trophies. The closing .date for entries has been extended until next Saturday. The following officials have been appointed to control the championships:—Beferee, Mr. P. Coira; marshal, Mr. N. A. Ingram; marshal's call stewards (to be appointed by the Manawatu Centre); judges, Nelson Shield Land-drill, Messrs. D. C. Pryor, J. Blakeney, and W. Beveridge; Nelson Shield Waterwork, E. Howell, P. D. Edwards, and W. Gerrie; William Henry Memorial, Messrs. W. C. Collier, W. Beveridge, and E. Howell; Surf Eace, all judges; timekeepers, Messrs. V. Allan, J. McNie, Weston J. Smith, E. Belfit, H. V. Mountfort,. A. M. Stevenson, J. Foley; timekeepers' steward, N.Stubbs; secretaries, F. Chapman (New Zealand Surf Association), E. E. Small (Manawatu Centre). In view of the large number of entries for the William Henry Memorial Trophy and_ the necessity of getting the event off in the shortest possible time in fairness to the beltihen the event will be run off with four teams entering the water at> once. Mr._N. A. Ingram presented a report on his visit ,to the Auckland • championships at Tauranga, and the subsequent conference of-clubs during which it was decided to form- a branch of the association at Auckland. Provisional affiliation ' was granted to the Takapuna Club 'to enable it to enter a team for the Henry Memorial Trophy. The affiliation is subject to the formation of a local association, which may not be done before the championships.
