Sir,—Being an interested reader' of:'the problems confronting city and suburban property owners, may I Buggest to' the chairman of the Wellington Ratepayers' Association to tackle first things first and thus consider in its entirety our major Eroblem, namely, the overwhelming j"'iafe urden that is so far-reaching; :. •/ ■ " jV "■ Commendable as it certainly is to take up the question of the qualityrof the milk distributed by the Municipal Milk Department, nenevertheless the fact is obvious that as the direct result of the artificial increase in the rate of exchange forcing up the cost of living beyond all reasonable bounds, it is only a matter of time as things go-when milk will become a luxury beyond the purchasing power of many householders. ~-.-... The 10.per cent, penalty on all-.unpaid city rates is, to say the- least, an imposition during prevailing economic stress,,and, even more so,-seeing that a 12% per cent, rebate is granted to rural ratepayers. -.. It is to be hoped, as suggested, that an early general meeting of the. Ratepayers*' Association will be called to enable a full discussion concerning the harassing burdens inflicted on owners of urban property. It is only by a sustained effort and spirit of action can any relief be obtained. Both in local body as well as national politics the need to-day is for men to enter public life -whose minds •will be ruled by absolute principles and nothing else... . ...'.■". /To neglect an appeal is to- give up all chance or obtaining relief for many -thousands of citizen?.—l am',, etc., - A PROPERTY OWNER;
