DERATING AND PETROL TAX

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) STRATFORD, 31st January. _ The following resolutions were carried without dissent' at a meeting of farmers addressed by Mr. W. J, Polson, M.P.:— , . That this meeting, being convinced of the necessity of a further reduction in costs, urges the Government to proceed with the derating of farm lands and the. substitution of petrol taxation, and to exercise the closest economy in Government expenditure hand in hand with this general programme. This meeting deplores the concerted attack on the Government's policy to give relief to the primary industries by means of an increase in the exchange rate, the readjustment. of tariffs, and a general reduction of interest rates, believing that such a plan offers not only relief to the farming community but also substantial assistance to tho country.
