CAR WASHED AWAY

William yon , Townley Browne, aged 35, is believed to have been drowned last night when a car in which he was a passenger was caught in flood waters at the Morrin's Hollow overflow on the Blenheim-Pieton highway. ; There, was over six feet-of water on the road at the time, as the result of phenomenal rain in the back country bringing down a heavy flood in the "Wairau. Frances George Thorne, the driver of the car, states that the engine stalled, and he got out to crank it. Browne left the car and was not seen again. Thorne finally abandoned the ear and went for assistance. When he returned the car had disappeared in the flood. A search of the locality has revealed no sign either of the car or Browne. The water is still very deep over an area of half a square mile.
