FATALITY IN CREEK

(By Telegraph,—Press Association.) - GEEYMOTJTH, 31st January. Heavy rain has flooded all the West Coast streams. The Grey River to-night was within five'feet of the Whari level, and may rise higher. The Hokitika River was in high flood this evening after heavy inland rainfall. The Hokitika streets were inundated, also an area alongside the banks at Kanieri. Numerous slips have occurred on the coast road between thefe and Westport, but cars got through to-day. Some stock losses have occurred in the Grey Valley. The Inangahiia River flooded roads from Greymouth to Runanga. The Grey Valley also southwards and to Otira are to-night reported impassable ia places.

i On the Otira Road a fatality occurred in a flooded creek. Charles Murtha, aged 67, of Kumara, fell on a stone, and fractured his skull when he wag trying to push a motor-car through the water.
