GREEK TREASURY SAVED
FEAR OF FORGED NOTES
(Received Ist February, S a.m.) ATHENS; 31st January. An epidemic of forged dollar notes has solved the Greek Treasury's pressing problem of how to raise a million sterling and prevent default to foreign bond-holders. The arrest'of a gang of American forgers created the fear that other foreign currencies were also forged. Investors hurriedly sold their holdings with the result that the Treasury in four days acquired sufficient currency to meet its obligations.
