The present spell of • wet weather has by no means be"en finished with according to the official forecast issued at noon to-day. Northerly winds are likely to reach gale foree in places in ana north of Cook Strait and to be moderate to* strong elsewhere. Winds, however, will back later to the south over the southern half of the Sonth Island. The weather will continue to be cloudy to overcast, with further rain in most districts. Heavy falls are probable about Cook Strait and on the "West Coast of the South Island.

The antieyelone^over the eastern part of Australia has made little progress in this direction since yesterday, and New Zealand is still covered-by a depression. A low centre is situated today off the "West Coast of Otago. Warm, cloudy, and .unsettled weather has continued^ with strong"" northerly winds and widespread rain, south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint; but further north the weather has been mainly fair to \ fine. There have been some very heavy downpours, especially in the western district and in the Nelson area. Arthur's Pass during the last twentyfour, hours has recorded a fall of no less 'than 690 points of rain, Nelson City^ 362, Westport 247, and Greymouth 220. Reports this morning from these localities indicate that rivers are flooded:

Auckland enjoyed warm and fair to hazy weather yesterday, with a northeasterly breeze. -

In 'Wellington the weather was warm and dull, with a strong and squally north-west wind. The rain resumed after midday and by 9 a.m. to-day 53, points had been recorded at Kelburn, yhich was the same total as that recorded on the previous day. Lower Hut't, onee'again, had more rain, 87 points IVeing recorded there.

ChristchuVch had a dull day yesterday, vritn showers, at times "and very little wind. The rainfall there yesterday only totalled six points. In Dnnedin yesterday's -weather was unsettled, intermittent rain falling with a fresh north-westerly wind.
