JOTTINGS IN GENERAL
The Carterton Racing Club has applied- ,,.■.% Permi*Jor an extra day's racing (at Carterton). on 27th May; Projection, who has' been' ,accorded nominations for ithe > Marlborough Meeting, js one :of the horses sold by Mr. J^ J-'Porry .during the last few months. His new..owner is Mr. Jr. P.. D.' Corry. : With -wins on Mungatpon and 'Limes at Takapuria on Saturday,: and on King. Mestor and Pelting on Monday, Keithi Voitre brought his season's tally" to' fiftytwo, or sixteen ahead of his nearest rival (L. J. Ellis). A Eiccarton report states that the two-year-old Nightly, by Night Raid from Miss Muriel, previously in P. T. Hogan's stable at Washdyke, has joined F. D. Jones's team and will be got ready for early racing. ' A Press message from Hastings states that La JSdoderne was last week placed under offer to an Australian buyer for .1000. guineas. This filly > was under offer1 to Mr. W. R. Kemball early in the season for 750 guineas;, but no sale resulted. Since then she.has won over £1200 in stakes. There is no report yet about the Australian deal having been brought off. The death occurred at Te Aiv.amutu on Sunday of Keith Paul, a son of the ownertrainer, Mr. Geo. Paul. Mr. Paul" was at the Takapuna Meeting, on Saturday with ■ Marechal and Trishna, but he returned to Te Awamutu immediately on1 receipt, of the sad news. ■".-, ..'..: ; . The imported stallion, Cockpit, by China Cock (a son-of Santdi), failed- to elicit a .bid at the, Otatara' Stud! dispersal on Saturday,;but he was.later.taken- on leasei for three years 'by Mr. P. C. Webb; acting on behalf of Mr. A. W. Douglas,' of Waikouaiti," where he "will be stationed next season.; This horse, who himself won the Royal Ascot' Hunt; Cup (before hid .■.importation,..has not.. left anything.. ..of account yet, but his opportunities ljave been few. . The best sale made at the dispersal of the Otatara Stud," Taradale', on 'Saturday; ■was that of a yearling' sister, to Gold Pit, who was purchased by the latter's owner, Mr. P. C. Webb, of Christchurch, for 45 guineas. Mr. Webb also secured the dam of the pair, Gold Bound, with a colt foal at foot by Cockpit and in foal to that horse, for 17% guineas.' Gold Bound is now' 22 years of age, and this probably accounts for her apparent cheapness, as her progeny to date have included Demagogue, Duo, and Ilka, all good racehorses.
