CHRISTCHURCH WOOL RETURNS.
Gross returns from the second Christchurch wool sale on 25th January will amount to about £275,000, or £75,000 more than those for the first sale in December last. The increase in the exchange, coupled with the slight firming in the market itself, has meant an additional £50,000. The total gross returns from the' first two sales of this season are approximately , £475,000. At the second sale last season the actual returns, on a basis of £10 4s 4d a-bale, were £247,716. .-•: At ..this, sale, the market showed a^ distinct improvement on the preceding'sale, but'it receded again later in the season. In'the absence of any definite figures, last week's returns have been ; computed on the basis of £11 a bale. At the first sale', the.price a bale' was roundly £9, taking into account the large proportion .of crutchings that was offered. Though the bulk of the fine wool advanced- 2d a lb on this occasion, the over-all advance has been assessed at l%d.
