WELLINGTON RETURNS
Under only one heading, petrol tax, do the' Wellington Customs returns for January exceed the individual amounts collected, in the corresponding month of last year. .Business in the first half of last month was poor, but after Anniversary Day there, was an improvement, and this is shown by the fact that in the period from 23rd January, until yesterday £84,000 'of■the net Customs duty of £182,059 for the month was'collected. The total of ■.£182,0^9 represents a drop.cf £23,897 on..the: net Customs revenue collected in January, 1932.. The beer and tire duties show .only small decreases.-The amount collected,, as petrol tax last month, however,, is greater by over £7000 than the net petrol tax figures for January. 1932..
