The House of Beiiresentaiives met at 2.30 p.m. to-day.

■Mr. H. Atmoro (Ind., Nelson) gave notice of his intention to- ask the Prime Minister whether the Government intended to take the necessary stes inprotect the New Zealand shipping industry against the menace of the heavily-subsidised Matson line.

Mr. J. A. A Tash (Government, Palmerstou North) gave no-tico to ask the Prime Minister whether he would consider the advisability of further supplementing the Unemployment 2Tund by £l,ooo,ooofrom the Consolidated Fund with a view to raising ten present small allocation, made to unemployed workers. Mr. P. A. de la Perrelle (Government, Awarua) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister whether he would consider giving protection to growers of oats, maize, and other grain products against importations from. Australia and South Africa.

■ The Rev. C. Carr (Labour, Timaru) gave notice to ask the Minister of Education on. what authority a circular was issued in April last advising single men resident in districts for more than, two years that they were no.longer eligible to represent their parents on school committees.

Mr. A. J. Stallworthy (Government/ Eden) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister for a return showing the full text of the agreement between, the Government and the banks in connection Mrith the raising of the exchange rate. (Proceeding.)
