MAY TRY FEAT AGAIN
Fields were small at. the Egmont Summer Meeting last year, especially on the second day, and it will be remembered that on the latter occasion the solid Chief JUiler mare, Awaken, contested two events in succession and won them both, a most unusual- feat. The first event was the Normanby Handicap, sevcm furlongs, and the second the Waimate Handicap, six furlongs. Awaken had also pcore'd 011 the first day, the three wins 'lioing her first for the season.
This year Awaken, who has not yet this season -shown any ijign o£ -winning ability, -is.'iiot qnjaged oh the first day, not having paid up fov the1 Cup, in which she was awarded; top weight (9.0), nor for tin; Whareroa- Handicap, in which she also •had top weight; (9.12). She may, however, be raced on the second day (Thui'sday),' if,'.;"6atisfactonly' weighted, and should she' accept doubly her two races will be consecutive ag^in, the one being the Tonks Stakes, 8% furlongs, and the other the Nbrmanby Handicap. She was never sighted on her two latest races at the Wellington Meeting, but she may strike a winning patch at auy time now.
