TOM BROWN PICNIC

Over a thousand boys had a wonderful outing at Day's Bay on "Saturday, when James Smith, Ltd., held the" Tom Brown League boys' picnic. Theiboye* assembled, at tHe Basin Reserve about 9 o'clock. Owing to the new regulations governing street processions, the march through tha streets was not held this year, and trams conveyed the boys to the Eastbourne Ferry Wharf. The b.s. Huritai had been chartered, and the lads were taken for a short cruise around the harbour, arriving at Day's Bay for luncheon. Free icecreams, drinks, and sweets were provided.

A great crowd, including many parents^ assembled for the sports. meeting, which commenced at 1.30 p.m. The programme provided entertaining races for competitors of various ages. The principal event was the Tom Brown championship, which provided much excitement, and was won by T. Kyle, with A. Robinson second.

The Municipal Tramways Band gave some excellent selections* during the afternoon, and at the end of the sports meeting a race was held for the bandsmen. This was won by Bandsman Brown, with Bandsman Tallantine second.
