NOT SO FORTUNATE
A NEWCASTLE PLUNGE
(Prom. "Vedette.")SYDNEY, 27th January. H. B. Lorigaa essayed another coup at Newcastle yesterday, with a smart. Brazen filly, Mabsie, recently acquired from Melbourne. She has a good deal, of speed, but met one smarter in Silver Speck, who defeated her by a head. Mabsie was backed to odds on. Lorigan also had ■ Lavington and Forestry at Kandwick, but both failed to race prominently against strong opposition. - . • At the Kensington Meeting on Wednesday the registered jockeys did not give the pony boys a. look-in,:even on a course which required experience. There were ten. races and nine were won straight out by regular AJ.C. riders. The other, a dead-heat, saw honours divided. It was simply a pony meeting to all intents and purposes. M. McCarten won two races, and in each his ability in the saddle played a big part Diamond, a stylish bay colt by Limond from Leta, was given his first run at Randwick on Saturday, and shaped quite well behind his stablemate, Air Queen, who finished third to jtrunsel.
