(By Telefrraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, 30th Jan. Because, he rofused to apply for work, Arthur David Laurenson, a slaughterman, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment by Mr. H. P. Lawry, 8.M., in the Maintenance Court to-day. Laurenson was charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, and it was stated that he had neglected an opportunity to apply for work. The defendant said he would not ask for work because his union forbade him to do so.
The Magistrate warned him that he was liable to six mpnths' imprisonment, but he repeated his refusal to seek work. Laurenson was thereupon sentenced to six months' imprisonment, the issue of the warrant being suspended for one- week.
