PLATE AS A WEAPON
William Henry Gardiner, aged 44, was fined £4 and ordered to pay £2 Is costs, by Mr. T. B. McNeU r S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day on a charge of assault.
When leaving a hotel yesterday the accused slipped and fell. Ho then attacked an elderly man whom he suspected of having tripped him, and smashed a plate over his head.
A visitor to Invercargill walked into one of the banks on Thursday to change a dollar note. Normally he would have received 4s 2d. Owing to the exchange rate and the depreciation of the pound he received 7s 2d, states the "Southland Times, 'i "' ~"
