GENERAL RAIN LIKELY
WITHIN TWENTY-FOUR HOURS
Since last night a depression over the Tasinan Sea has developed cyclonic form in its advance toward New Zealand. .Hence to-day's weather forecast is for general rain' within the next twenty-four hours. Winds are likely to be moderate to strong generally, with northerlies' prevailing north of Greymouth and Banks Peninsula. Southerlies or south-easterlies will prevail to the south of those points and will gradually extend northward. The weather is predicted to become overcast and misty or foggy. Almost general ram may be expected, with scattered thunder and some heavy falls. . Yesterday fair to cloudy weather prevailed, over the greater part of the Dominion, although some scattered rain fell in districts with a westerly aspect. In the night' a shallow depression passed over the country, bringing to most parts rain of some kind. There were some heavy falls in places and thunder. Okuru reports having had 152 points of rain, Nelson 101, and Gisborne 94.- Winds have been moderate and variable, with northerlies predominating. By this morning, however, southerlies were in evidence over the southern half of the South Island. A fine morning in Auckland yesterday, where the wind, was a moderate northerly, was followed by a dull afternoon.
Wellington again had a fine and warm day with 11.7 hours of bright sunshine. The north-westerly wind was fresh_ at times, and at 3.30 a.m. this morning a light shower of one point of ram fell in the city, but there was no precipitation in the Hutt Valley. Christehureh experienced another warm and sunny day, the north-easter-ly breeze changing to a southerly dur"»fiT the night. • In Duncdin the wind was a light north-easterly and conditions were warm and sunny.
