QUINNAT SALMON
GOOD SPORT PREDICTED
Excellent sport with quinnat salmoa in coming seasons is to be expected by anglers who visit Lake Coleridge, ao cording to a Teport presented to th«. Council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation/ Society on Wednesday; night (states the "Christchurch Star")* The fish have established a firm hold ia the lake, and, unless they deteriorate^ should do well.
The report stated that on the opening day for the lakes, Ist November^ Lake Coleridge was about sis feet below overflow leveL Conditions up t* the present had remained good, »c(f, sport had been up to the standard (0 previous years.

The popu. lar method was a short easting rod with a quick winding reel, and the fisli were.usually taken at a fair depth. ' The Peak Hills side of the lake appeared to be more thickly populated with salmon than any' other, and the best catches that had been reported afc the Harper end, bags of from twenty, to thirty for two rods over the week-, end being the rule rather than the ex-< ception. Those fish had* also been taken' on a large fly. ■..:'
Some very fine specimens of rainbow trout, ranging up to 101b in. weight,^ had been taken this year. The.majority, of the fish averaged about 61b. Th» best of them were to be found on the Eighton side -of the lake, where very* few small specimens had been-recorded." One weighing about IXllb was taken. They readily took a big fly, and were taken also on the spoon and phantom. Indications were that brown trout were not very numerous. One specimen: weighing 101b and another 61b were ia excellent condition.
There was no record of Atlantis Ealmon having been taken this year.
