MAKING A CATHEDRAL

Tlie .writer of an article in the Liverpool Diocesan Leaflet on the new section of Liverpool Cathedral says there is no more difficult question to answer than when the cathedral will be finished. The choir took 20 years to build, says the 7" ter> and the present section, begun in 1925, is unlikely to be finished until theend of 1938—say, 34 years from the laying of the foundation stone. Since there will then remain two more sections—viz., the nave and the tower, to be completed, there would seem justification for those who consider that a total building period of 60 years^-even assuming there is no interruption from lack of funds—will be needed to complete Sir Giles Scott's great design.
