,3 (By.. Telegraph.—Press Association.) «\ .. CHRISTCHTJRCH, 19th January. ST .At a meeting of the Canterbury Im- ;■{ porters' Association the following resos lution was carried:— ■■-i - "Thus-- meeting strongly protests -'■. against-a further attempt being made j.- artificially to increase the already high r exchange rate. The • business commun- : ity has been' assured by the Government a that the: regulation of the exchange is a- entirely a matter for the banks. The -: Associated Banks have definitely de- .-: tided against this policy of inflation, /! which, if, carried into effect, must in-- ..-. crease the cost of living, as well as all : costs of production. "A higher rate of exchange will inevitably mean heavier taxation, to meet the increased cost of remitting to London' Governmental and local body funds. _ The primary producers of the . r Dominion cannot receive more than a \_ proportion of any additional income resulting from an increased rate of exchange."
