HARBOUR BOARDS HIT

AUCKLAND TO PAY £12,300

Advice was received in "Wellington to-day that the increase in the rate of exchange had hit the Auckland Harbour Board to the extent of £12,300 for this year alone. Other harbour boards, particularly those that had borrowed^ in London on. the security of their rateable lands, it was pointed out, were even more seriously affected and as the lands concerned were farming lands the farmers would have to make up the deficiency or get the Government to do that for them also. The Wellington Harbour Board, which owes very little money in London, is ; it is stated, not affected to any appreciable extent.
