' Bapid developments in the political situation at the -week-end culminated iii a complete rupture between Mr. Tiel-i man Eoos and General Smnts. Mr., Eoos's meeting at Bloemfontein, ati which, five thousand were present, wai completely wrecked by Government snpporters. An ugly situation devel-t, oped, and Mr. Eoos was smuggled away1, under police protection. A crowd ofl three thousand surged to the, hotel; where he was staying. They were kepti: at bay by the police; but Mr. Eoos, won a great personal triumph; He ap-i----peared on the balcony, quelled the dis^. turbance, and secured a vote of con-i: fidence. * .... - .
