DOGS IN THE STREETS

I (To the Editor.) ~ I i Sir, —Your correspondent, "Cleanliness," suggests prohibiting dogs in streets , unless the animals are oh leash and complains of the condition •of '■ footpaths defiled by dogs. It appears to'be theprae-tiee-^-I write of the Mount Victoria - residential area—f or .dog owners^ to take their animals out in the evening or early niorning with the object of, training theVdoga to cleanliness when, at home.. The result j is that the footpaths are now becoming intolerably filthy and certainly insanitary and harbouring swarms of flies. The locality I have in mind is swept by the Corporation labourers once a week, and they do their job' thoroughly,' btit confine their attention to the gutters, leaving the disgusting filth on the footpaths.—l 'am, etc., ■ . . . (To the Editor.) • Sir,—The letter from "Cleanliness" makes one wonder what he (or she) considers the "proper place" for dogs; If they, are not to be allowed on footpaths, it would -hardly- be popular with motorists if all Wellington dog owners were.forced | to promenade on the streets with dogs on leashes, Hot to mention the 'danger ,'to pedestrians. I can only suggest a regular | air service for dogs to the Town Belt, passengers of course to be" picked up from the roof of the house, as they .are not allowed on the footpaths.—J am, etc., j ■'-'■• ' WHAT NEXT.'
