THE MINOR EVENTS

LITTLE GUY'S SUCCESS

With ideal weather, the Wellington Racing Club's Gold Cup Meeting at Hutt Park on Saturday was assured of success from the beginning,, and the public had lone of its most enjoyable day's sport at the course.". The racing in the minor events. was always full of interest, and there were' many close finishes.

The track was in first-class order, returning very fast times. The attendance was excellent. For the day the totalisator handled £14,552, as compared with £15,798 15s last year, a decrease of £1246 15s, which must be considered quite a satisfactory return. .STANLEY BINGEN OPENS.. Stanley Bingen went a level race to win the "-Kaitoke" Handicap rather easily by "two lengths from Fairyland, who made the running for a mile and three furlongs. Stanley Bingen began. smartly, and after trailing the leaders. until nine furlongs were covered he went up to dispute the .Jead with .Fairyland and Edith Voyage, with Garner within three lengths of them. Going to the mile and a quarter post Garner broke badly. Stanley Bingen headed Fairyland and Edith Voyage at the bend for home, and after that never appeared in danger.of defeat. Over the last two furlongs, Garner trotted very fast to secure third money. Stanley Bingen is a member of a successful family, beinc a half-brother to VVaitaki' Girl and Kid Logan He is owned by Mr. R. Jopp, and is trained by J. Bryce, who entrusted the drive to J ■Uryce', jun.,- ■. , END-TO-END SUCCESS. ?.Ir. C. S. STANLEY BINGEN AGAIN. ■ /-Stanley Bingen registered' his second win for the day when he won the Progressive, 'Handicap after an interesting finish with Deceitful, Wah, and Garnc When^Garner took the lead nearly half a mile from home she looked a certain •winner, bat Stanley Bingen was not to be denied. He followed her closely into the straight, and tackled her a furlon°- from home. At that point Deceitful and Wah began to overhaul them. McDermott drew the whip on Garner, but she could not respond. Then Deceitful and Wah swooped down on Stanley Bingen, an exciting tussle ending in Stanley Bingen winning by a length from Deceitful, who was a neck in front of Wah, with Garner dying badly a head further back. Wah made his task a difficult one by faulting at the eleven furlong;* disc anil losing five lengths. He was just in behind Garner and Stanley Biiißen at the time. He finished in great style, .arid but for his. mistake he might seriously. have troubled the winner. Garner trotted a splendid race, but was beaten on her

merits through failing to stee the distance right. through. Fairyland went an honest race, but Edith Voyage made two breaks. Deceitful faulted on three occasions, but she did not lose much ground.
