THE NAME OF "SELFRIDGE."
A subsidiary company of the London department store founded by Mr. Gordon Selfridge" was recently registered in Victoria as Selfridges (Australasia), Ltd., distributors and general warehousemen. The head office of the company, which has a capital of £250,000 in shares of £1 each, is in Sydney. The directors of the new company are Christopher Bruce Midlane, Arthur William Lambell, Francis William Harper, Herbert Phillips, . and Victor James Plumb. This announcement by the "Sydney Morning Herald" was followed next 'day by the same authority stating: "We have been, informed on behalf of Messrs. Selfridge and Co., Ltd., of No. 400, Oxford street, London, England, that the statement that the new company is subsidiary to that organisation is incorrect, and that there is no connection or association between the two. We are advised also on behalf of Selfridge's (Australasia), Ltd., that no statement issued on behalf of that company would justify the inference, that it was in any. way associated with the London company."
