MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Cases at the Magistrate's Court were dealt with to-day by Messrs. A. Longniore and H. W. Shortt, J.P.'s. Norman McLeod, a seaman, aged 44, John Meskill, a fireman, aged 49, were, each fined 10s. tor lighting, in Cambridge• terrace. Begging for money from a plain-clothes constable was the cause of Peter Butler, alias Clancy, aged 61, appearing on a charge of being idle and disorderly in that he had insufficient lawful means of support. The accused pleaded guilty, but said that if he was given a chance he would leave town immediately. After drawing the attention of the Bench to a very long list of convictions accumulated by the accused, Sub-Inspector Martin said that Butler had told the tale about leaving town so often before tliat.it had become a matter of, form with him A sentence of two mouths' imprisonment was imposed.
