FIGHTING COMMUNISM AND ATHEISM
(To the Editor.) Sir,—"Joram," in his letter last Thursday, enumerates a number of movements and religious bodies that are endeavouring to stem the tide of Communism, and materialism, but while these movements may be active and virile' individually their combined effort, through lack o£ organisation, is not as effective as it should be and hence Communism continues to flourish. Instead o£ being direct and positive the effect is indirect and more or less negative. No matter how good individual members o£ a football team may be, if they lack organisation, leadership, and combination they will be beaten by a team possessing theso qualities although inferior individually. What applies to sport applies even more so to the great battle of life Good v Evil, for the enemies of humanity,, as pointed out by His Grace, exhibit wonderful, combination, organisation, and. leadership. The time has come for all the forces that.are at present interested in human welfare to organise and combine and thus bring their full fighting strength into line and present a united front to the foe. Serious con-sideration-should be given to this matter, and it is suggested that a conference of those interested be held and an organisation formed! Let our motto be "United we stand, divided we fall." —I am, etc., UNITY. .(To. the Editor.) Sir,—As an' interested reader of your paper I read a communication in a recent issue over the-nom de plume of "Jorain" concerning the efforts being made in Eng-r land to check the spread of Communism and atheism. The correspondent mentioned several societies, and organisations who are presumably fighting' these evils: Can,"Joram" or any.other well-informed person say what action is being taken in parts of the British Empire where these evils exist, and how the ordinary indivii dual may assist?:—l am, etc., • . '' WARRIOR:: Other correspondents write on the same subject. "F" quotes Archbishop Redwood's appeal to make religion and duty to God the first consideration, and asks how and-when-this appeal can be made and the tide of irreligion stemmed. "All who accept the Bible as God's Word, know that He has appointed brie day in seven for this very purpose. ' Surely, then, it is the duty of every minister and Christian to do all that lies, in his power to maintain the sanctity of, and reverence for, the Sabbath Day."' ;; "Robert the Bruce" holds that there are now b6 many Karl Marxian Socialists in the Legislature (put there by votes of members of the churches and other societies mentioned by "Joram") that it is impossible, to discipline these teachers who are avowed atheists, Friends of Jhe Soviet Union, and Marxian Socialists. "This growing insidious and pernicious influence is in all our schools more or less fight up to the university." -■■'_.
