RAIN DEVELOPING
FINE WEATHER ENDS
The present meteorological outlook is noSy less favourable for those hoping for a continuance of fine weather than it has been for some time, although many people probably will not quarrel with a good Tain, Bhould it fall and finish before Christmas. The forecast issued at noon to-day promises moderate to fresh and increasing winds, with southteasterlies prevailing in. the Cook Strait area and easterlies to northerlies elsewhere.-Cloudy weather is likely in'.vtfie.Auckland' province, with rain developing;X; Elsewhere fair to cloudy weather will be experienced at firstj but the Jain area will gradually/extend southward as . far : as parts of : Nelson and Marlborough. . -'.'.'. While an anticyclone, with its centre to the-south, has been crossing- the Dominion, a cyclonic disturbance has been advancing over .the Tasman Sea toward ,the north of New Zealand.' ■" As a result, south-easterly winds have been strong in places in the Cook Strait area. - Moderate to fresh southerlies have prevailed in eastern, and far northern districts, while the southern half of the South .■ Island has experienced north-easterlies. Early to-day; a light drizzling rain started to fall. The weather in Dunedin yesterday was mostly fair, with intermittent cloud and sunshine and very little wind.
