Exceptionally high tides and strong squally winds with gusts of from sixty to seventy miles an hour caused considerable anxiety last night owing to the danger of the Thames overflowing its banks. Emergency measures were taken to deal with the possibility and watcli was kept in the early hours of this morning, but tho tide passed its full without causing damage.
