THE NAUGHTY FAIRY
■ (Original). One day a little fairy called Princess Beautiful was told by her mother'to stay home and mind the fairy dell. Bha was tired of sitting at home, although she had plenty of things to" play, with, such as bluebells to ring and buttercups to paint yellow, and the Sunflower's face to turn tip'to the sun. But oh, she grew so tired of these things, and into the woods she .went, quite for-: getting her mother's words. ,She skip»; pod so high that she-caught her wing On a branch and broke it. So Bhe sat' on a toadstool and cried. ; A toad/hearing her cry, came out of his , house and asked her what wat wrong. But she-only said, '.'Go away, you ugly big thing. .Your big. eye« frighten me.?' "But, dear little Prin-; cess, Borne people with, ugly fates have big, kind hearts.", .'.;.'. -~;
The Princess smiled a little *t thii and said,' "You should have * bi* heart, but I wonder if it's kindf" "Well," ho saia, '*I would like'to prove it to you. I know a little elf, not far from here, who would mend your wing for you." "Oh, please help me, for I have been disobedient to my mother and rudo to you." "I will tako you to the elf," answered the toad, "and get your wing mended. The elf wears funny clothes and a queer hat, but please don't laugh at them." Away they went, and had the win? mended. The elf was bo small, and looked bo funny,, that tho Princess nearly laughed, but he was clever. She could not thank him enough. The toad -told her to remomfcer the lesson she had learnt that day.
