The First Ice-Cream
The first ice-cream was made in 1660 by an Italian confectioner's apprentice, Cultelli, an ambitions young man who racked his brains to invent new cakes and sweetmeats (states a correspondent). In summer he found that cold water applied inside and out was insufficient to relieve the strain of the heat, and one day he had the brilliant notion of crushing some ice and consuming it with,some sweet liquid; The result was so pleasing that -. Cultelli constructed a wooden box with a double bottom, into which, he put separately crushed ice and sweet cream, which by means of an instrument was turned above- the ice until it was-frozen., The success of this condiment was so great that Cultelli opened a cafe in Paris.called t'PafeProeopo^"
