DAMAGED FARMS
WAIROA- EARTHQUAKE
The serious plight of farmers in tho Wairoa district as a result of the recent earthquake was emphasised by speakers at;tho meeting of tho Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union last evening. A' remit was carried to the effect that unless ,tho national appeal was taken up more seriously it would be absolutely necessary for the Government substantially to assist the farmers in the earthquake area. It was stated that many of the farmers had had their chimneys brought down three times by earthquakes, and fences and buildings had suffered beyond repair. There was some doubt as to whether Mr. J?. W. Furkert, Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, had included the whole 'of the farming district in his tour of inspection of the devastated area, and ifc was decided that if that aspect of-the damage was not covered adequately in thd report, details of distress among faimers should'be impressed upon the Government;
A famous Paris landmark, the El Dorado Music Hall, where all the great French music-hall stars of the past sixty years have made their names, including Maurice Chevalier and Mistinguett, is being demolished. • ■
