INDUSTRIAL LAW
SHOULD BE REVIEWED
RISK OF UPHEAVAL
An. appeal to the Government to review the amending industrial legislation of last session was made in the House of Representatives last night- by the! — Government member for .Eden (Mr. A. J; Stallworthy), who suggested that such an. amendment would be in the bestinterests of industrial security. •Mr. Stallworthy said the experience gained since, the passing of the last amendment proved conclusively that there had been,no restoration of confidence among the industrialists, and no increased confidence among the public generally, but there was very grave unrest among employees from whom had been removed "the protection of the Act. The hopes of the Government for an increase in the volume of employment as a result of the alteration in the law had not materialised, and such, was the unrest prevailing that no one knew what was on the threshold of the future. "We are running the risk of a terrific industrial upheaval that may cost the primary producers and the rest of the Dominion millions of pounds," declared Mr. Stallworthy. "That is a risk we are not justified in taking. The Gov-ernment-will be well advised to review , the position and grant an appeal to the final arbitrator in the case of industrial disputes."'
