CHAMPIONSHIP ROUNDS

.Most unpleasant weather prevailed yesterday at Miramar when the Miramar Ladies' Golf Club open tournament was commenced. A cold southerly wind and drizzling rain had to be contended against, and these adverse conditions were reflected in the scores. Some good cards, however, considering the circumstances, were returned, the best, round of the day being- one of-. 81; ■ played iv the afternoon by Mrs. D: Wilson (Miramar), who, with a previous round of 90, headed the field of the sixteen players qualifying for the open championship. Her total of 171 was two strokes better than that returned by Mrs. Ferguson (Auckland). Third and fourth on the list were two other Miramar players, Miss Gambrill (170) and Miss Hanson (184). The Wellington Club champion, Mrs. Stout, started badly with an initial round of 103, but by returning- a card of 90 in the afternoon found ninth place in .the list of those who qualified. .
