NELSON V. WELLINGTON (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") ■ NELSON,/ 25th October. The bright patch in Nelson's, first innings against Wellington ,in the match commenced to-day was. the partnership between J. and A. Xewnian, who, after the luncheon adjournment took charge of the bowling for over half an hour and added 60, which resulted in the home side leaching a respectable total against their strong opponents. A. Newman's 55 was a good effort, as was J. Newman's 45 not out. The tail of the Nelson team went cheaply, and the total reached 166. Dempster and Dustin opened for Wellington against the bowling of J. Newman ami McGirr. '■' The batsmen apparently could do nothing with : the bowling, and the "scoring was painfully slotjt. It took /forty-five minutes to raise double figures, and. sixty minutes'. play produced 20. At one stage McGirr had bowled ten overs, of which- five were maidens, for 5 runs, and J. Newman fifteen'overs, ten of which were maidens, at a cost of 11 runs. Dempster was more enterprising later, but just when he was beginning to score he was caught behind the wickets. Ross proved a free batsman, opening his accounts^with three successive scores. Lambert .saw only a few balls before he sent one back to the bowler, Hawkes. The day's play ended with Wellington's total at 74 for four wickets. Of.' these Hawkes had taken three for 12 rims.'The wicket remained in'perfect condition all day; and the ground dried very 'fast in the hot sun and wind. - TO-DAY'S PLAY ' (By Telegraph.) (Speck! to "T v he Evening Post.") NELSON, This Day. The weather was beautifully fine and warm to-day for the continuation of the cricket match, and the wicket was in good order. Scoring in Wellington's first innings, which yielded. 147 runs, was slow, no batsman being at home against the bowling by Newman, ilcGirr, and" Searell, and the registration of 100 runs occupying 205 minutes. Allcott's dismissal' was the result of a brilliant catch by'McGirr. Wellington batted again before lunch, and made 74 runs for the loss of four wickets. Details:— NELSON. First Innings. X E.
