Newman, for* merly enthusiastic, is now lukewarm. Davis is indifferent. McConachy and Smith are strongly favourable, but the forthcoming Gold Cup tournament will be played under ordinary rules with * stipulation that after seventy-five successive cannons a losing hazard must be played.
