GENERAL BAIN

UNSETTLED WEATHER

The extensive cyclonic depression referred to in yesterday's weather notes now covers New Zealand as well as practically the whole of the Tasman Sea. Hence the weather outlook is not at all promising, except, perhaps for agriculturists, who want rain for pastures or crops. To-day's forecast promises general rain, with many heavy • falls, the. weather continuing dull with mist or fog. These humid conditions are likely to persist for a day or two. Winds will be moderate to strong north-easterlies to northerhes and temperatures will continue to be mild, hence the rain should be very beneficial. _ One centre of the disturbance, which is a complicated one, passed over the northern part of New Zealand last night, accounting for heavy rain in parts of the Auckland peninsula. Since then the rain has become more widespread, but so far little has fallen on the East Coast south of Hawkes Bay. Conditions now, however, are dull and misty generally, with easterly to northerly winds prevailing. Dull and misty weather prevailed in Auckland yesterday, rain falling at times with the strong north-easterly wind. Pine,, warm, and pleasant conditions were experienced in Wellington, i practically a calm prevailing Christchurch, on the other hand, had a dull day, with: a strong east-north-east wind. Dunedin's weather resembled Wellington's, being fine and sunny with a light nbrth-easterly wind. Twelve Joiinsonville residents wrote recently to the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board, protesting against the inconvenience of having only two days a month on which to pay their electricity accounts at the local .collecting depot, and suggesting that the accounts should be payable at any time at the Town BoaTd 's '. office. The question was considered by the Power Board at its meeting yesterday, and it was decided to reply that the board would soon be establishing a permanent collecting depot in the Hutt County Council's office in Wellington.
