The meteorological situation has been dominated by a widespread cyclonic depression which now covers New Zealand as well.as the Tasman Sea. One centre of the depression crossed the northern portion of the. Dominion last night, and was responsible for heavy rain at places in the Auckland province. The weather was mostly fair yesterday in: the east coast and far southern districts, but has gradually become dull and misty generally, and since last night rain has become more extensive, although so far little has fallen on the east coast of the South Island. Easterly and northerly winds have predominated and have freshened somewhat to the north of Cook Strait, but thence southwards they are still mainly only light to moderate in force.
