AWAPUNI CANDIDATES
PRINCESS DOREEN WELL
(Special from "Binocular.") PALMERS-ION" This Day. Although heavy., rain fell during the night, the Awapuni tracks were in splendid order for galloping yesterday morning. •. ■ - - ■ . Statuary (Chisholm) and Joyspear (Bradley) were the first of the early workers to be sent against the watch. Joyspear made the pace, but Statuary was going the better at the end after runnin" seven furlongs in lmin 3osec. Blacksmith (BromleyJ did a round on the plough, but then went on to run six furlongs on the same track in lmin 25 3-osec, the first three being left behind in 40sec. j Hunter's Moon was restricted to easy work on the plough. He has lightened up somewhat as a result of his racing at Otaki and Masterton. Trouble, who'has since gone north for the \V aikato Hunt Meeting, was sent over a couple of rounds on the plough. He accomplished his task very attractively, finishing on strongly. After breakfast Equitant (Voitre) ran five furlongs in lmin 5 2-ssee, the first two in 25 1/£ see and three in 39sec. This mare may be taken through to Waipawa for Labour Day, where she will be given a. try-out over a ■ mile. On the saucerlike course she should be able to see out the extra distance. The Wellesley Stakes candidate, Princess Doreeu (Voitre), who looks all the better for her race at Avondale, slipped over three furlongs in the brilliant time of 36 4-ssee. Interlocutor (Voitre) and Nebulae (Me-" Dowel]) ran five furlongs in lmin 5 1-5 sec, the former finishing on the better to be a length clear at the post. Interlocutor will race at Waipawa. Beau Gallante (Miles) bowled along in front of Minstrel Lad (Thompson) and Bee Acre (McDowell) in a seven-furlongs gallop, but the trio were at the
finish, running the distance in Imin 35 Bee. • ."■'.- [ - Unacre (McDowell) displayed a good turn of speed -n-hen she led Headland (Voitre) at the close of three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. The latter will race at Waipawa, but no rider has* been as yet engaged. Warzone (L. Jones) jumped off at the top of the straight, and, timed from the mile post, she ran the first two furlongs iv • £6 i-ssec, five in Imin 10 l-ssec. and the mile in Imin 53 3-osec. The inar'e has a doubtful leg at present. Inflatiqn was a. visitor to the tracks yesterday, being treated to a sand roil. He was not asked to work. Sporting Chance has come back looking all the better for a lengthy spell. Park Drive has also made a reappearance. R. C. Miles will pilot Warzone on the opening day at Wellington, but he will then go north to Hamilton to ride Trouble and Sub-Editor ■in their engagements. ' ' ( Mercian Prince will probably forego his 1 Waipawa engagements, it being considered that this big strider would riot be at home on the circular track. Heur-y of Navarre (Shearman) did a couple of rounds, taking six flights of battens in all. He did not have the pace on, and Tie rapped practically every fence. Alan McDonald wiil signal his return to the Dominion by riding him.at Trentham.
