TO-DAY'S PROCEEDINGS

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. . In the Committee stage on the Religious Instruction in Schools Enabling Bill, the Eight Hon. Sir Francis Bell moved to strike out the words "Keligious'' and '' Enabling from the short title. The Hon. Sir James Allen said the amendment;' was designed to kill the Bill, and he asked tho supporters of the measure to oppose tho amendment. The. division resulted in an equality of voting, and the Chairman of Committees (the Hon. J. A. Hanan) voted for the amendment, which was thus carried. (Proceeding.)
